Get Rid of Chronic Jaw Pain & Headaches

Does your jaw frequently feel sore or stiff? Do you constantly get migraines or ear aches and can’t figure out why? Surprisingly, all of these things can often have the same cause, and that is a strained jaw joint, known as the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). This can lead to a condition called temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), and it can cause a wide variety of symptoms, most of which involve chronic facial pain. Fortunately, we can provide you with treatment right here at Eco Dental—no need to see a specialist!

Diagnosis & Treatment

Our team will examine your TMJ during every regular checkup, and if we find or you report a symptom that could indicate a TMD, we’ll perform a number of tests and scans to determine the root of the problem. A TMD can be caused by a variety of things, such as strain in the joint, stress, an injury to the area, arthritis, or it could be the result of an uneven bite. Determining the reason for the pain will help us recommend the best possible treatment.

Equilibration / Occlusal Adjustments

If the teeth are unable to come together properly, this can cause the muscles in the jaw and face to strain, which can make a patient feel tension and pain throughout their jaw, face, and head. To correct this, we can perform what is called an equilibration/occlusal adjustment. For this procedure, we simply reshape a few key teeth so that the jaw and surrounding muscles are able to reach their natural resting positions, which should help any pain gradually go away.

Botox Injections

You might be familiar with Botox as a treatment for facial wrinkles, but it has actually been used for years as a pain reliever as well. A TMD can sometimes cause muscle spasms in the jaw, leading to even more pain and stiffness. With a few quick injections of Botox, we can calm these muscles, stop the spasms, and enable the TMJ to heal on its own. The treatment itself only takes a few minutes, but the results can easily last for months at a time.
